OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The Arkansas Municipal League was founded in 1934 and exists for a threefold purpose: To act as the official representative of Arkansas cities and towns before the state and federal governments; to provide a clearinghouse for information and answers; and to offer a forum for discussion and sharing of mutual concerns.
About the League
The League fulfills its mission through legislative advocacy, optional benefits programs, training and educational opportunities, and various publications. The League staff, under the direction of the executive director, has the responsibility of implementing League goals and objectives as defined in the current edition of Policies and Goals. Additionally, the League publishes its annual report, the State of the League, in the summer edition of City & Town magazine. The 2022-2023 State of the League can be found here.
Policies and Goals
Policies and Goals is the statement of municipal policy of the Arkansas Municipal League and serves as the vehicle through which the cities and towns of Arkansas make known their common aims and purposes and move together for the improvement of local government. It is designed to be revised and readopted each year at the League’s annual convention. This edition was officially adopted on June 16, 2023, at the 89th Annual Convention of the Arkansas Municipal League.
This policy statement represents the foundation upon which the League builds its programs. It attempts to set forth the principles used to guide specific action by League officers, committees and staff. It is the League’s platform for building better municipal government and, consequently, better cities and towns for the municipal residents of Arkansas. Policies and Goals also contains an explanation of programs, services and other activities the League, as well as the Arkansas Municipal League Constitution.
Message From Our Executive Director
We are delighted to be able to communicate with you through this medium. The Arkansas Municipal League is a voluntary organization offering services to the cities and towns of the state of Arkansas.
Our goal is to assist municipal officials in representing the interests of cities and towns and to provide services to our members that will foster improved local government in Arkansas. If you have suggestions as to how we might better accomplish that objective I would be happy to hear them.
